Become a Referee

Capital District Referee Association is affiliated with Eastern New York Soccer Referee Association which is under the United State Soccer Federation.  To become a referee involves the following:

Candidates should be physically fit and emotionally mature. Players and parents interested in learning how to officiate USSF soccer are invited to become referees. Successful candidates will be certified as USSF Referees, and will be eligible to officiate USSF-sanctioned games

For grade 8 beginner referee level

  1. Age 15 years or older
  2. Register with Instructor (a fee is required to be paid at or before the class)
  3. Attend a 32 hour classroom instruction on the Laws and Procedures of FIFA soccer
  4. Passing a written test consisting of 100 multiple answer questions
  5. Review the USSF Registration Information.
  6. Fill out a USSF Registration Form (will also be provided at the clinic)
  7.  Pay the USSF registration fee (may be included in the clinic fee)
  8. Purchase required uniform and referee equipment

For a grade 9 Recreational Referee

  1. Age 12 or older
  2. Register with Instructor (a fee is required to be paid at or before the class)
  3. Review the USSF Registration Information.
  4. Fill out a USSF Registration Form (will also be provided at the clinic)
  5.  Pay the USSF registration fee (may be included in the clinic fee)
  6. Purchase required uniform and referee equipment
  7. Attend an eight (8)  hour Classroom and Field Instruction as follows:
